changing research careers
2-3 November 2011, Zurich, Switzerland
Universities play an important role in European society and in the economy. The recent focus on research careers and in particular the ongoing efforts to make a career in academia more attractive reflect this fact.
Switzerland - as well as all other European countries in the EU and beyond - face the particular problem that women are strongly under-represented in the upper echelons of acadcmia. Addressing this issue is important for several reasons, including the prevention of loss of talent and potential for innovation as well as fairness, non-discrimination and equal opportunities.
The policies and practices that influence the selection processes that determine who persists in academia constitute the focus of the conference changing research careers. The conference closes with a panel discussion on the topic promoting young researchers – selecting tomorrow’s research leaders.
