ERASMUS
30th of September 2010 marked the end of a long-year contract with the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER), which had mandated the CRUS General Secretariat to run a national agency, the Information and Coordination ERASMUS Switzerland (ICES), for the participation of Swiss universities in the EU's education and training programme ERASMUS. Starting in 1992, by order of the federal government, what was then the Central Office of the Swiss Universities (SZFH), was responsible for preparing and coordinating ERASMUS exchanges of Swiss universities, and starting in 2001 the well-networked, experienced team at the ICES brought also universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education into the ERASMUS exchange programme.
As of 1st October 2010, with Switzerland's official participation in the EU's ERASMUS programme as an associated country as of the academic year 2011/12, the Swiss Competence Centre for exchange and mobility of the ch Foundation in Solothurn took over all information and coordination activities of ERASMUS exchange in higher education. The General Secretariat at CRUS now handles only remaining concluding matters of the previous indirect participation (exchange years 2009/10 and 2010/11).
Starting October 1st 2010, the CRUS General Secretariat can provide information only on the conclusion of Switzerland's previous indirect participation in the ERASMUS programme (exchange years 2009/10 and 2010/2011)!
