The Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities CRUS is the association of the 12 Doctoral Degree Awarding Universities of Switzerland, branded 
CRUS represents its members with regard to political authorities, economic circles, social and cultural nstitutions as well as in relation to the public. It supports co-ordination and co-operation in teaching, research and services and thus supports the guarantee of education and scholarship provided in accordance with the instructions and the objectives of the participating institutions.
Voting members of the CRUS include the Vice-Chancellors and the Presidents of the ten cantonal Swiss universities and both Federal Institutes of Technology (see p.2). Led by a board of governors (the President and two Vice-presidents), the Conference works with delegations of their members, and also with commissions and consulting experts, in various duties and areas of expertise. These include:
- Strategy, planning, co-operation
- Studies, doctoral programmes, further education
- Admission and equivalence
- Quality assurance, evaluation, accreditation
- Internationalization and mobility
The team at the general secretariat currently comprises the Secretary General Dr. Mathias Stauffacher and 30 staff members (including mandate and project workers).

Although each of the twelve Swiss Doctoral Degree Awarding Universities has its own characteristics, they all basically have the same structure. They are divided into faculties or departments, including theology, law, economics and social science, arts, natural science, and medicine.
